Albarn hops into a Gorillaz-branded golf caddy and rides over to a B-stage, where he reinterprets key Demon Days cuts like Last Living Souls and Don’t Get Lost in Heaven, imparting a reggae flavour with rich acoustic arrangements that include xylophone and contra drums. Nine of Song Machine’s 11 tracks are aired with a sextet of backing vocalists and an airtight live bandĮlsewhere, the back catalogue proves pliable.
